Role summary

This role involves supporting the effective use of clinical data through coding and information management, contributing to improved healthcare delivery. The post holder will also assist the wider administrative team with daily duties and senior clerical tasks, including performance audits. A key responsibility is to support the Head of Healthcare in achieving and monitoring Quality of Outcome Framework (QOF) targets. This is a part-time position for 15 hours per week.

Key responsibilities

  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of coded clinical data on the clinical information system.
  • Act as the first point of contact for coding system queries and liaise with relevant disciplines regarding issues.
  • Assist in undertaking regular audits to ensure coding policies and procedures are followed and issues are resolved.
  • Help ensure comprehensive and effective procedures are in place for consistent provision of quality clinical information.
  • Work with clinical staff to develop and promote the clinical coding service and access to SystmOne records.
  • Ensure the Clinical Coding Service complies with all current legislation, national and local directives (e.g., GDPR/Access to Health Records, Information Governance).

Essential criteria

  • Good standard of education to 5 GCSE (or equivalent) including English and Maths
  • Working knowledge of Medical Terminology
  • Computer literate
  • Knowledge of READ codes
  • Working knowledge of QOF indicators.
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Summarising of Medical Records.
  • Searches, statistics, gathering of information.
  • Experience of read coding.
  • Experience of processing reports and able to pay particular attention to detail and accuracy for completing accurate records
  • Multi-disciplinary/multi-agency collaborative working
  • Coping with multiple tasks and prioritising workload.
  • Ability to work alone and as a member of a team
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Problem solving/decision making
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills both written and verbal. - Ability to analyse and interpret data/complex evidence and apply to practice.
  • Good competent IT knowledge including ability to use range of Microsoft office products to fulfil role (e.g. Word and Excel).
