Role summary
This role is for a Band 5 Speech and Language Therapist to join the Camden Language and Communication Service (CLCS), a specialist multi-agency team supporting mainstream primary schools in Camden. The post holder will provide assessment, diagnosis, and intervention for children with spoken language and communication difficulties, working collaboratively with educational colleagues. This is a full-time permanent position, with part-time applicants also welcome. The service focuses on effective and impactful client contact for children with and without additional funding.
Key responsibilities
- Implement interventions and staff development at a whole school level, including joint target setting and outcome monitoring.
- Provide specialist assessment, treatment, and management of language and communication problems in school-aged children up to 11 years.
- Make appropriate differential diagnoses and clinical decisions for complex cases, developing clear care plans.
- Manage and prioritise a specialist caseload under supervision, contributing to multi-agency assessment procedures.
- Liaise and share information with health, educational, and other professionals, contributing to clinical teams and meetings.
- Carry out administrative duties including activity data collection and ensuring equipment security and maintenance.
Essential criteria
- BSc. in Speech and Language Therapy or equivalent (including Dip. CST)
- Health and Care Professions Council Registration to Practice
- Registered Member of RCSLT
- Ability to communicate complex information to parents /carers and other professionals in a variety of clinical situations
- Ability to motivate clients and carers to participate in treatment and carry out advice
- Experience of working with children and/or clients with a range of speech, language and communication needs of different ages
- Experience of implementing a range of therapeutic interventions for children with communication needs in range of settings
- Experience of writing SMART goals and outcoming them
- Knowledge of a range of assessment tools and procedures to evaluate speech, language and communication skills relevant to a range of communication difficulties
- Understanding of statutory processes regarding education for children with special education needs
Desirable criteria
- Some experience of delivering training to a range of audiences e.g. teachers, teaching assistants and specialist education and health professionals
- Writing statutory assessment advice and awareness of SEN and Educational policies, EHC Plans etc

Camden Language and Communication Service (CLCS) are excited to be able to advertise for 2 Band 5 Speech and Language Therapists to join our wonderful and welcoming team. CLCS is a unique jointly commissioned team of speech and language therapists and specialist language and communication teachers. We are based in a modern office in Pancras Square next to Kings Cross St Pancras station. All maintained Camden Primary schools have access to this team who provide support at universal, targeted and specialist levels. Speech and language therapists are sited with their educational colleagues to enable continuity and coordinated support. CLCS is dedicated to developing a sustainable and effective service model that puts effectiveness and impact as the focus for client contact. We support children with Education and Health Care Plans (EHCPs), Exceptional Needs Grants (ENGs) and also those without additional funding.
