Role summary

This is a maternity cover position for a Senior Healthcare Support Worker in the Radiotherapy department. The role involves taking bloods, providing skin and wound care, and general patient care for oncology patients undergoing radiotherapy treatments. The successful candidate will work closely with Therapeutic Radiographers and other specialist teams, requiring excellent communication and IT skills, and the ability to work independently.

Key responsibilities

  • Take bloods for patients having radiotherapy treatments.
  • Provide skin and wound care, as well as general care for patients in the department for long periods.
  • Work closely with On Treatment Review Therapeutic Radiographers, Brachytherapy, and Gamma Knife Teams.
  • Reassure patients throughout the radiotherapy department with a calm and caring attitude.
  • Keep a check on stock levels and inform relevant people for ordering.

Essential criteria

  • Experience as a Healthcare Support worker in a health or social care setting.
  • Experience of working in an Acute Hospital Setting
  • Phlebotomy experience
  • Wound care experience
  • NVQ level 3 in health or social care or equivalent
  • GCSE in both English Language and mathematics or equivalent in these two subjects e.g. Certificates in Adult literacy and numeracy at level 2
  • Effective communication skills, verbally and written
  • Able to provide basic patient assessments
  • Committed to providing high quality care
  • Enthusiasm and commitment to work within the team
  • Be able to speak fluent English to an appropriate standard

The Radiotherapy Team is looking for a Senior Healthcare Support worker for a maternity cover. The radiotherapy department sees approximately 200 patients daily for external beam, brachytherapy, Gamma Knife, and molecular radiotherapy patients. Our Senior Healthcare Support worker works closely with our Therapeutic Radiographers to provide care for our patients.

The ideal candidate will have experience in phlebotomy and wound/skin care.
