Role summary
This Specialist Biomedical Scientist role in Biochemistry is based in a large hub laboratory serving Leeds Teaching Hospitals and the wider community, including regional Oncology and Children's Hospitals. The successful candidate will perform a wide range of specialist clinical technical investigations, contribute to the day-to-day running of the lab, and participate in a 24/7 shift rota. Key responsibilities
- Work within a large hub laboratory utilising cutting edge technology.
- Perform a wide range of specialist clinical technical investigations, sometimes independently or on-call.
- Apply professional judgements and specialist skills to technically complex situations.
- Organise tasks of support workers and communicate complex information to colleagues and healthcare staff.
- Assist in the day-to-day running of the laboratory, including QC, EQA authorisation, training, risk/incident assessment, and HR procedures.
- Attend MDT and other user meetings, and be involved in R&D projects under supervision.

Job Summary
The successful candidate will work within a large hub laboratory utilising cutting edge technology, serving both Leeds Teaching Hospitals and the wider community. This includes the regional Oncology centre and the Leeds Children's Hospital, which is a unique opportunity for the successful candidate to gain wide ranging experience within the discipline.
To be considered for this Specialist Biomedical Scientist (AFC Band 6) position in Biochemistry, you must be registered with the HCPC as a Biomedical Scientist and have experience working as a band 6 in Biochemistry in an NHS laboratory. If registering with the HCPC on or after 2006, a completed IBMS Specialist Portfolio is a requirement of this post.
Participation in the 24/7 shift rota is expected of the successful candidate.
