Role summary
This role involves providing Occupational Therapy assessment and treatment to children and young people under 18 with learning disabilities, autism, challenging behaviours, and/or mental health difficulties. The post holder will manage a defined caseload, deliver evidence-based interventions, and work as a senior member of a multidisciplinary team. Responsibilities also include providing clinical supervision to junior staff and supporting leadership within the service. The aim is to prevent placement breakdown or hospital admission for young people at significant risk.
Key responsibilities
- Provide Occupational Therapy assessment and treatment interventions to children and young people under 18 with learning disabilities, autism, challenging behaviours, and/or mental health difficulties.
- Manage a defined clinical caseload, using evidence-based, client-centred practice to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate interventions.
- Work as a senior member of a multidisciplinary team, offering advice and contributing to service development.
- Provide clinical supervision to junior staff, including Assistant Practitioners, and undertake a practice placement educator role.
- Conduct comprehensive assessments with patients and families/carers, utilising specific occupational-focused assessments and case formulation.
- Maintain accurate and contemporaneous client records, adhering to professional and legal requirements.
Essential criteria
- Evidence of HCPC Registration for Occupational Therapy
- Significant post registration experience of working with children with learning disabilities, autism and/or mental health conditions
- experience working in community based settings
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of Post Graduate Training
- Good understanding of multi disciplinary working with ability to demonstrate independent working
- Good use of information technology

Job summary
The post holder will provide Occupational Therapy assessment and treatment interventions to children and young people under 18 years of age who have a learning Disability/ Autism spectrum condition diagnosis, behaviours that challenge and/or mental health difficulties that is putting the young person at significant risk of placement breakdown or hospital admission.
The post holder will use evidence based, client centred practice to assess, plan, implement and evaluate one to one, and group based interventions within the setting.
The post holder will manage a defined caseload, using evidence based/client centred practice to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions.
The post holder will receive clinical supervision from Team Lead Occupational Therapists working across the All-age Intensive Support Team Pathway.
The post holder will work as a senior member of a multidisciplinary team, providing advice to the multidisciplinary team as required.
The role will support leadership and provide clinical supervision to junior staff and undertake a practice placement educator role, the post holder will be expected to allocate work to Assistant Practitioners and ongoing support on a daily basis, as well as supervision and appraisal.
