Role summary
This role is for an experienced nurse or allied health professional to develop into an autonomous practitioner within the Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) at Colchester Hospital. You will assess and treat patients of all ages with minor injuries and illnesses, working towards becoming an Adult and Paediatric Nurse Practitioner. The position involves undertaking specific courses in minor injury, minor illness, consultation, assessment, and non-medical prescribing. This is a Band 6 development post with a clear progression path to Band 7.
Essential criteria
- NMC or HCPC Registered
- An Understanding of the management of Illness and Injury in Adults and Children
- Experience in ED/Urgent and/or Primary Care
Desirable criteria
- Undertaken any of the following CPD Modules: Consultation and Assessment, Injury, illness or NMP
- Evidence in ability to manage care in an autonomous manner
- Registered Nurse or Allied Health Professional with relevant PIN
- Proven experience post registration qualification in UEC/Primary Care settings
- Plastering, Wound Management, BLS/PBLS, Manchester Triage and other relevant documented experience
- Knowledge of the National UTC Principles and Standards published by NHS England
- Competent IT and Computer Skills
- Knowledge of Primary, UEC and Secondary care functions and practices
- Working Knowledge of SystmOne
- Communication Skills
- Confident and able to act as the patient advocate
- Able to function as part of the multi-disciplinary team
- Remain calm, consistent and professional under pressure
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Job summary
The Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) is part of Colchester Hospitals Urgent and Emergency Care department. The UTC is based at the front door and see's and assesses every patient who walks through the UEC front door. All UTC Clinicians are autonomous and will be expected to see Children from Birth and All adults, both injury and illness. The UTC staff at the Front door will assess every patient and ensure they get the the right place at the right time, dependant on the needs.
The UTC is open from 7am until Midnight, 7 days a week. We see, treat and discharge Minor Injury & Minor Illness presentations in line with the National UTC Principles & Standard.
We are looking for an experienced nurse or allied health professional who wants to further develop their skills & become an autonomous practitioner. If successful you will undertake courses in Minor Injury & Minor Illness, Injury, Consultation & Assessment & Non-medical Prescribing.
This will be a Band 6 development post, where you will be provided with a development plan to progress into a Band 7.
