Role summary
This role supports children and young people with learning disabilities and/or autism who have complex mental or physical health needs, including challenging behaviours or communication difficulties. The Assistant Practitioner will manage their own caseload under supervision, complete therapeutic assessments, and assist in developing and implementing interventions. They will provide direct and indirect support, monitoring progress and providing feedback to qualified staff. The position involves working independently with clients, parents, carers, and other agencies.
Key responsibilities
- To be allocated and manage own case load effectively under the supervision of qualified staff.
- To complete therapeutic assessments of Children and Young People using structured observation and assessment tools under the supervision and guidance of the registered professional.
- To assist qualified members of the team in the development of interventions which are based on assessment outcome and the principles of the relevant professional groups.
- Provide both direct and indirect intensive intervention, advice and support. To monitor and review interventions providing timely and concise feedback to qualified members of the team.
- Work alone with clients/Parents/Carers/Families/other agencies as required following appropriate preparation and liaison with qualified members of the relevant team.
Essential criteria
- Clear evidence that applicant has worked with young people with LD/A
- Experience of independently completing informal assessment and observation.
- Experience of designing, implementing and adapting programmes of care using clinical judgement.
Desirable criteria
- Working knowledge of relevant symbol systems, computer software packages and high and low-tech communication aid systems.
- Good IT skills
