Role summary
This role is for a motivated and highly skilled Clinical Nurse Specialist in Upper GI, acting as a key worker for cancer patients. You will provide person-centered care, holistic assessments, and expert advice throughout their cancer journey. The post involves working closely with oncology consultants and multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, evidence-based care and contribute to service development.
Essential criteria
- Registered General Nurse. Degree in healthcare related subject. Masters level education in health-related subject or on a Masters pathway. Post- registration qualification in cancer/palliative care or relevant subject. Advanced communication skills training or evidence/experience of advanced communication skills. Evidence of continued professional development.
Desirable criteria
- Independent prescribing. Teaching qualification. Experience of audit and research. Leadership and management experience.
- Experience of teaching. Experience of using advanced communication skills. Previous experience of working as a Clinical Nurse Specialist or previous experience of working as a band 6 in speciality oncology or palliative care.

Have an in-depth knowledge and expertise in the speciality to provide patient information, advice and clinical care.To provide education and be a resource to other health care professionals
This post plays a pivotal role in improving patient experience, clinical outcomes, and continuity of care for individuals as part of their cancer treatment. You will work closely with oncology consultants, nursing teams, pharmacy, and allied health professionals to deliver safe, evidence-based, patient-centred care.
Main duties of the job
Act as the key clinical point of contact for patients receiving cancer treatment
Provide specialist clinical advice, education, and supportto patients and their families
Develop and maintain patient information resourcesand education materials
Support informed decision-making and holistic needs assessments
Contribute to service development, audit, and quality improvement initiatives
Provide education and support to nursing and multidisciplinary colleagues
