Role summary

This role is for a Registered Nurse within the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Bristol NHS Foundation Trust. The ICU is a state-of-the-art 48-bedded unit in a major trauma centre, offering a robust orientation and structured development pathway. The nurse will provide direct patient care, manage patient needs, administer medications, and communicate effectively within the multidisciplinary team. Opportunities are available for both experienced and newly qualified nurses who have completed an ICU placement.

Essential criteria

  • Registered Nurse with current live NMC registration
  • Evidence of continuing professional development

Desirable criteria

  • Teaching and assessing qualification (teaching and assessing in practice or equivalent) or willing to undertake
  • Work Experience
  • At least 12 months recent, post registration experience in acute general setting (ward area) or NQN who has completed an ICU placement
  • Experience of working in an ICU setting
  • Currently working in Critical Care environment
  • Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Advanced communication skills, verbal & written, to include report writing and record keeping
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with patients and the multidisciplinary team
  • Computer / IT skills and expectation to develop these in line with the needs of the service i.e. Care flow Electronic patient record, ICE, Microsoft teams, Outlook- Email, symbiotics and connecting care
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to organise own workload, time management/Basic Problem solving skills

  • We offer those joining us a new challenge in a forward-thinking environment. This is supported by a robust orientation and structured development pathway that can be tailored to both experienced nurses and those new to ICU.
  • As well as being one of the busiest Major Trauma centres in the UK, we are also a regional centre for neurosurgery, vascular surgery, urology, spinal surgery, renal as well as burns and plastics.
  • We have also recently gained High Consequence Infectious Disease status for the South-West region.
