Role summary
This is a full-time Band 5 Occupational Therapist role based on a male acute ward at the Radbourne Unit, supporting adult acute mental health patients. The role involves assessment, therapeutic interventions, and delivering care to national recommendations to facilitate patient discharge. You will work within a multidisciplinary team, contribute to shaping the service, and benefit from a large OT group for support and supervision. The position requires working 37.5 hours per week, covering shifts between 8am and 8pm, Monday to Sunday.
Key responsibilities
- Provide occupational assessment and treatment using appropriate interventions based on the recovery philosophy and Model of Human Occupation.
- Work with the multidisciplinary team to provide safe and effective discharge plans.
- Develop and deliver meaningful activity within individual and group environments, focusing on person-centred care and recovery principles.
- Work independently to develop and deliver an Occupational Therapy Service on the ward for inpatients.
- Actively manage your own workload, prioritising competing demands effectively.
- Promote social inclusion, enabling independence and enhancing service user autonomy.
Essential criteria
- Degree in Occupational Therapy
- HCPC Registration
- Working Mental Health Experience
- Group work and planning
- Experience of using the recovery approach
- IT skills
- Ability to work as an autonomous practitioner
- Good communication skills
- Effective working with the Multidisciplinary Team
Desirable criteria
- MOHO Framework
- L'APPLE Accreditation
- Level 2 Food Hygiene
- Good Understanding of NHS and relevant national standards
- Inpatient experience

Job summary
We are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for a full-time Band 5 Occupational Therapist to join the team at the Radbourne Unit.
This role is based on one of our male acute wards. The service is designed to offer direct support to adult acute mental health patients.It's a great time to join Derbyshire Healthcare and be part of a dynamic, supportive team making a real difference in mental health care.
The role of an Occupational Therapist on the ward focuses on the assessment therapeutic interventions and deliver care to national recommendations, to support patients to be discharged back into the community.
This is a great opportunity for you to support shaping the service and build on MDT working, alongside the Ward Manager and other senior leaders. You will work with others to develop the OT service on this ward and collaborate with an innovative and forward-thinking ethos. The service as a whole has a large OT group, who will support you with your development and offer clinical supervision (and preceptorship programme, if needed).
The post is 37.5 hours a week between Mon-Sun and shifts are expected to be 7.5 hours, ranging from earlies and lates, covering times between 8am to 8pm.
