Role summary
This role is for an experienced and enthusiastic midwife to act as a Delivery Unit Coordinator. The successful candidate will provide clinical leadership and manage midwifery services, staff, students, and visitors within the Delivery Unit. They will ensure high standards of care, participate in multidisciplinary rounds, and contribute to the strategic development of maternity services. The coordinator will also oversee staff rotas, manage personnel issues, and support staff wellbeing.
Key responsibilities
- Provide effective and dynamic clinical leadership and support to all midwives, support staff and students working on Delivery Unit.
- Support and develop the team on the Delivery unit to ensure an effective learning environment and work collaboratively with other members of the multidisciplinary team.
- Actively contribute to the strategic development of the services to meet both the present and future provision of maternity services.
- Oversee staff duty rotas to ensure appropriate staff and skill mix, and manage personnel issues such as sickness absence and staff wellbeing.
- Support staff to report and escalate incidents, deal with complaints, and handle sensitive issues.
Essential criteria
- Registered Midwife
- Degree in Midwifery or equivalent relevant experience
- Professional portfolio demonstrating evidence of relevant ongoing professional development
- NLS or equivalent
- ILS course or equivalent
- Ability to demonstrate an expert working knowledge of midwifery in all areas of the maternity service
- Evidence of relevant clinical updating
- Evidence of leadership, management and/or team development at a clinical level
- Robust understanding of related Guidelines and Policies and their revision
- Aware of current research and its impact on evidence based care
- Conversant with NMC rules governing practice
- Demonstrate awareness of clinical governance
- Knowledge of current reports/guidelines relating to Maternity Care and their implication
- Good all round knowledge of patient surveys and satisfaction questionnaires
- Working knowledge of word, excel and PowerPoint applications
- To be able to practice in all clinical areas in accordance with the NMC Code (2018)
- Well-developed interpersonal and counselling skills
- Excellent communications skills and ability to communicate difficult and contentious messages
- Ability in perineal suturing, cannulation, I.V. drug additives and epidural management
- Able to demonstrate contribution to changing practice
- Demonstrate effective clinical leadership ability
- Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team
- Ability to travel between the Trust and the community services, as required
- Support and develop midwifery-led care
- The ability to understand and behave at all times, towards patients, visitors and colleagues according to the Trust values of Together-safe, kind, excellent
- Ability to be on call when required
Desirable criteria
- NIPE qualification
- Leadership qualification
- Master's degree or equivalent relevant experience
- Involvement with clinical audit and research
- Use of computerised information system
- Participation and contribution to local Regional/National maternity forums
- Experience in leading on complaint responses and client feedback
- Experience in guideline and protocol revision
- Knowledge of initiatives and programmes developed to support and maintain safe, kind, personalised birth in all birth settings
- Well-developed leadership skills
- Demonstrate commitment to the implementation of evidence based practice
- Able to act up for Ward Manager/Matron
- Ability to provide leadership for a multi disciplinary team

Job summary
We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic midwife with expert clinical and leadership experience to fill this position as a Delivery Unit Coordinator.
The successful candidate will have responsibility for the day to day clinical leadership and standards of midwifery services, including all staff groups, students and visitors within the Delivery Unit and have responsibility for the management and coordination of these teams.
They will demonstrate effective and compassionate leadership skills to support staff to provide kind, safe, personalised care based on current research. They will organise others in their actions and set priorities, objectives and goals within their sphere of responsibility.
They will participate in multidisciplinary team ward rounds on Delivery Unit and daily perinatal liaison meetings taking into account the theatre schedule and booked inductions of labour for prospective twenty four hours.
They will work in collaboration with the Matron for Delivery Unit, the inpatient maternity ward managers, the senior management team and clinical leads to ensure high standards of quality care provision on the Delivery Unit and will assist in taking the quality and improvement agenda forward within the department.
