Role summary
This is a development post for an adult Speech and Language Therapist looking to gain experience in a specialist acute setting, with a clear pathway to progress to a Band 6 role within 18 months. The role involves supporting patients with swallowing and communication difficulties following surgery, intubations, stroke, and brain injury, from critical care to home. You will contribute to the stroke team, MDT meetings, and staff training, with opportunities to develop skills in instrumental swallowing assessments.
Essential criteria
- Diploma/Degree/MSc in Speech and Language Therapy
- HCPC Registration
Desirable criteria
- Dysphagia practitioner
- Membership of relevant clinical interest or professional group
- Knowledge & Experience
- Evidence of recent and relevant CPD including attendance at courses relevant to speech and language therapy.
- Good clinical reasoning skills based on evidence and current research
- Evidence of attendance at mandatory training
- Demonstrate a knowledge of the MDT and their differing contributions to patient care
- IM & T Skills.
- Experience of supervising students
- Skills & Abilities
- An ability to work as part of the MDT and communicate appropriately with all grades of staff.
- An ability to empathise and reassure
- Evidence of presentation and teaching skills within a healthcare environment

Job summary
Are you an adult Speech and Language Therapist looking for a new challenge? Are you looking to gain experience in a specialist acute setting? Would you like to the opportunity to develop skills in critical care, dysphagia, FEES and VFS?
If so, then this could be the post for you!
We are looking to recruit a positive, reliable, and motivated Speech and Language Therapist to join our team on a full time (1.0 WTE) permanent contract.
Main duties of the job
In this development post you would be supported with extensive supervision and training to progress to a Band 6 role within an agreed time frame (expected 18 months) and having met specific requirements as outlined in the attached job description document.
This is an exciting position to support to our patients with swallowing and/or communication difficulties following surgery, prolonged intubations, recurrent laryngeal nerve injuries, stroke, hypoxic brain injury etc. We help rehabilitate patients from critical care to home, using evidenced based treatments and approaches. We lead an established FEES service and collaborate with our SALT colleagues at Liverpool University Foundation Hospitals to deliver a weekly videofluoroscopy clinic.
