Role summary

This role is for an Adult Education Tutor within the Forensic Mental Health Service at Littlemore Hospital, Oxford. The tutor will support learners with severe mental illness/learning disabilities, creating a positive and engaging learning environment. Responsibilities include developing individual learning plans, assessing progress, and ensuring accreditation with Ascentis. The position is part-time, working 30 hours per week.

Key responsibilities

  • Be responsible as a tutor and assessor for an identified workload and provide group and/or individual tutoring to service users.
  • Work efficiently and effectively to meet both individual and service targets and accreditation quality requirements.
  • Develop, agree and review Individual Learning Plans with service users and provide regular support/monitoring of their progress.
  • Maintain effective records of own assessment and training practice using electronic systems.
  • Contribute to quality assurance of awards and delivery programmes, and the revision and implementation of changes to quality assurance standards.
  • Develop materials and lesson plans to be delivered to service users requiring underpinning training or for work-based and vocational qualifications.

Essential criteria

  • Further and Adult Education Teachers Certificate or equivalent
  • Recognised English/Maths qualifications at Level 3 or above
  • Working with Learners who have a severe mental illness/learning disabilities
  • Working as part of a team to deliver learning opportunities
  • Use of IT systems
  • Excellent communication with people from diverse backgrounds and complex needs
  • Able to work autonomously

Desirable criteria

  • Recognised specialist qualification at level 4/5 (at least diploma level)
  • Working in a Forensic Mental Health setting
  • Completion of audits
  • Contributions towards service development

Job summary

We are seeking an engaging, motived and enthusiastic individual to join our Forensic Mental Health Service as an Adult Education Tutor . This role will be based across the Forensic Service at the Littlemore Hospital Site, Oxford .Please note this role ispart-time working 30 hours per week.

We are very interested in tutors who are able to support learners to work towards their aspirations. The postholder will ensure a safe and organised risk assessed learning environment, adhering to all relation security guidelines.

They will create a positive and encouraging learning atmosphere that promotes skills development and confidence. It is important to engage learners by using a range of teaching and learning strategies, adapting teaching methods to suit a diverse range of learners. You will also be responsible in assessing learner progress, providing constructive feedback to support learning and development.

The post holder will ensure ongoing accreditation with Ascentis, and will collaborate with the MDT to deliver a high-quality programme aligned with the learner's aspirations.
