Role summary
This pivotal role within the Operations team provides a confidential and comprehensive patient-centred service focusing on patient flow. The post holder supports the identification and timely placement of patients across adult inpatient services, working to agreed protocols. They will work with minimum supervision, coordinating activities to ensure an efficient bed management service. The role involves exercising initiative and maintaining confidentiality at all times to make a direct and positive contribution to the organisation.
Key responsibilities
- Focus on patient flow through the emergency pathway.
- Support the allocation of beds in a proactive manner, considering patient safety at all times.
- Collate and record data daily relating to patient flow and performance.
- Escalate delays to a patient's journey across the organisation to the relevant group.
- Coordinate the workload of the Transfer Team to ensure flow and delivery of National Targets.
- Ensure that a comprehensive updated AM/PM handover is communicated to the night team regarding site capacity and issues.
Essential criteria
- o Good general educational standards including GCSE or equivalent English and Mathematics
- o NVQ level 3 in administration or equivalent
- o Significant experience working in an acute trust.
- o An understanding of flow and capacity across a healthcare organisation
- o Experience in communicating with multi-disciplinary teams
- o Proven experience of working unsupervised.
- o Experience of data inputting, data analysis and retrieval
- o Proven ability to manage individual projects across organisational boundaries using tact and initiative when communicating with key stakeholders.
- o Experience of following policies and procedures.
- o Experience of managing patient flows.
- o Knowledge of access waiting times
- o Insight and knowledge into patient flow for emergency, elective and surgical patients.
- o Good organiser with persuasion and influencing skills coupled with an awareness of organisational politics.
- o Strong negotiation/influencing skills with staff at all levels.
- o Ability to work and make decisions and escalate as required.
- o Competent levels of computer literacy are required.
- o Excellent oral and written English skills
- o A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
- o Excellent Communication skills and ability to liaise on multiple levels and multiple platforms.
- o Ability to work accurately under pressure without supervision and direction.
- o Ability to organise and prioritise work to meet deadlines.
- o Ability to work autonomously.
- o Working knowledge of current IT systems.
- o Understanding of the Trust's policy on "Delivering Same Sex Accommodation".
- o Understanding of Trust Infection Control policy.
- o Working knowledge of MS Office packages: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- o Maintain a high level of accuracy and able to track information.

Job summary
This is a pivotal role within the Operations team to provide a confidential and comprehensive patient centred service regarding patient flow. To support delivery of the Key Performance targets.
The post holder works with all adult inpatient services to support identification and placement of and patients appropriately and timely, working to agreed protocols and procedures.

The post holder will be expected to spend periods of time working under his/her own initiative. The post holder will carry out the duties in such a way as to make a direct and positive contribution to the organisation of the work and to assist the Team to maximise the most effective bed management service. It is essential that the post holder exercise initiative commensurate with the role and vital that confidentiality is maintained at all times.
