Role summary
This role is for a motivated and enthusiastic full-time learning disability/mental health nurse specialist to join the Specialist Mental Health in Learning Disabilities Team in Bromley. The post involves providing specialist assessment and intervention for people with learning disabilities and mental health needs in a community setting. It requires working closely with service-users, families, carers, and other health and social care providers. The role also includes clinical supervision and teaching staff or students.
Key responsibilities
- Manage a complex clinical caseload ensuring high standards of care.
- Facilitate access to generic health services for service users.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of Policies, Procedures and Clinical Guidelines.
- Deliver specialist mental health assessment, formulation, diagnosis, and management planning.
- Develop formal links and working relationships with local community Adult Mental Health Teams and other services.
- Participate in the Care Programme Approach and act as Care Co-ordinator where appropriate.
Essential criteria
- RNLD or RMN with substantial post qualifying experience
- Evidence of continued Professional development
- Educated to degree level or equivalent with a specialist Mental Health qualification if RNLD and LD qualification if RMN
- Plus specialist training to Master's equivalent level
- Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team
- Substantial experience working as a community nurse
- Experience of working with people with a learning disability and mental health problems
- Experience of mentoring students and others
- Ability to frequently work under pressure and maintain concentration, particularly in unpredictable situations where there will be exposure to highly distressed and/or disturbed patients, often exhibiting challenging behaviours and the risk of physical violence
- Self-motivated, able to work autonomously and independently with confidence when required
- Ability to meet deadlines

Do you have an interest in working in the field of mental health in learning disabilities and would like a new challenge? The Specialist Mental Health in Learning Disabilities Team in the Borough of Bromley is looking to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic full time learning disability/mental health nurse specialist to join the team.
The team consists of psychiatrists and specialist nurses, and work closely with specialist challenging behaviour teams and psychology. We are fully integrated within the adult Bromley Learning Disability Community Team.
This is a community-based nursing post with an emphasis on clinical work,providing specialist assessment and intervention in the management of peoplewith learning disabilities and additional mental health needs; in partnership withservice-users, their families, carers and other generic community health andsocial care providers. Caseloads consist mainly of people with functional mentalhealth problems, and a smaller group of people with challenging behaviour ordementia.
The posts also involve carrying out clinical supervision and teachingstaff and/or students.
The successful candidates will be an RNLD or RMN with experience working with people who have a learning disability and additional mental health problems in a community setting.
