Role summary
This role is for a self-motivated and competent Band 5 Accredited Clinical Coder to accurately code complex specialties. The successful candidate will abstract and analyse clinical information, translating it into coded form using ICD10 and OPCS4 Classifications, ensuring high-quality data for healthcare planning and financial flows. The position requires working to strict deadlines with attention to detail and accuracy. It is a full-time role based at Barnet Hospital, offering flexible and remote working opportunities.
Essential criteria
- National Clinical Coding Qualification
- Educated to GCSE level including qualifications in English and Maths
- Training completed in ICD10/OPCS4 coding to National Coding standard
- Training completed in Anatomy & Physiology and Medical Terminology to National Coding standard
Desirable criteria
- GCSE or equivalent in Human Biology
- ECDL or computer proficiency certificate
- Proven experience as a trained clinical coder working in an NHS trust
- Experience of delivering in-house training to trainee clinical coders
- Previous experience of using Medicode encoder
- Skills ana Aptitudes
- High level of knowledge of medical terminology, and anatomy and physiology terms
- Knowledge of clinical coding rules and conventions
- Planning and organisational skills to ensure departmental targets are fully met
- Training completed in Anatomy & Physiology and Medical Terminology to National Coding standard
- Knowledge of Data Protection and Confidentiality laws and how they are applied to Coding
