Role summary
This role is for a Clinical Sister / Charge Nurse in the Intensive Care Unit, responsible for deputising the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse and acting as a role model for junior staff. The successful candidate will provide strong clinical leadership, support, and empower team members to ensure effective management of the ward. They will contribute to delivering high standards of nursing care and uphold the Trust's values.
Key responsibilities
- Provide strong clinical leadership skills, supporting, energising, inspiring and empowering others in pursuit of a shared vision to ensure the effective management of the Intensive Care Unit.
- Be responsible for the teaching, supervision, assessment of students and junior staff.
- Attend and participate in team and unit meetings, to exercise leadership, coordinate and manage the nursing team.
- Demonstrate effective management of staffing levels in accordance with the needs of the service.
- Provide an effective specialised resource (practical and theoretical) within the Intensive Care Unit.
- Be responsible for developing clinical skills and knowledge through on going education and life-long learning, ensuring that nursing practice is up-to-date and evidence based with the scope of practice.
Essential criteria
- RN1/RN2/RN12 or RN Child Registered Nurse on the NMC register.
- BSc / 1st degree (health related) or equivalent qualification / training / experience
- Mentorship / teaching qualification
- Intensive Care Course or equivalent
- Up to date knowledge of current clinical and professional issues
- Awareness of clinical governance and risk management issues
- Knowledge of evidence based practice
- Proven experience of effectively leading the care and management of critically ill patients
- Experience of teaching / assessing / supervising others in a clinical setting
- Give an example of a time where you have demonstrated a 'can do' attitude (including the situation you were in) and the outcome
