Role summary
This role is for a Band 6 Crisis Clinician, open to Mental Health Nurses and Allied Health Professionals, within the acute services pathway. The post holder will provide rapid assessment and evidence-based interventions to service users experiencing mental health crises, operating within a 24/7 service that includes telephone support, crisis assessment, and intensive home treatment. Responsibilities include clinical leadership for junior staff, prioritising workloads, and ensuring high-quality assessment and formulation. The role requires a compassionate, energetic, and motivated individual passionate about improving mental health outcomes.
Key responsibilities
- Provide rapid assessment and brief evidence-based clinical interventions.
- Develop, plan, and implement brief care and treatment interventions for patients within the Intensive Home Based Treatment Pathway.
- Undertake clinical risk assessments compliant with local policies and procedures.
- Promote a recovery model, empowering patients, carers, and relatives in decision-making.
- Act as the patient's and relatives' advocate, championing their rights including dignity, equality, diversity, choice, and respect.
- Ensure good documentation is provided and entered within appropriate record sharing systems.
Essential criteria
- Current professional registration with an approved professional body.
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
- For registered nurses: MIP, FLIP, ENB 998 Teaching & Assessing in Clinical Practice or City & Guilds 730 Teaching in Adult Education. Must be achieved within agreed timescale.
- 18 months post qualifying experience including sign off of appropriate preceptorship or competency framework (at the point of application)

- Key skills in literacy, numeracy and ITQ level 2 (or equivalent)
- Provide leadership, monitor, co-ordinate and prioritise the activities of a team.
- Communicate complex and sensitive information effectively to patients, carers/families and all members of the multidisciplinary team.
- Work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and undertake lead professional responsibilities.
- Provide effective clinical supervision, teaching, training and assessing in clinical practice
- Write reports
- Use multimedia materials for presentations in professional settings
- Use approved breakaway techniques
- Significant experience working with people with mental ill health in a community setting
- Working collaboratively with service users and their families/carers
- Providing clinical supervision to individuals or groups as professionally appropriate.
- Mentoring or facilitating students on practice placement.
- Working in a multi-disciplinary team

Job summary
We are looking for a caring, compassionate, energetic and motivated individual who is passionate about improving the mental health of our service users. This is a band 6 post open to Mental Health Nurses, and Allied Health professionals who are currently registered with the NMC, HCPC or SWE.
This is a pivotal role with the acute services pathway as our team is focused on providing evidenced based interventions with the aim to prevent and reduce difficulties experienced by service users and carers during mental health crisis.
The team operates over a 24/7 period providing an All Age Crisis telephone service, Crisis Assessment Service, Health Based Place of Safety and Intensive Home Treatment pathway.
The service can be fast paced, and the ideal applicant will be extremely organised and self-motivated to provide high quality assessment, triage and formulation for service users accessing our service.
The post holder will be responsible for the clinical leadership of more junior members of the team, prioritising workload and utilising resources appropriately to ensure that service user needs are met.
