Role summary
This Support Worker role is based at The Croft, a 7-bedded home providing short breaks and outreach support for children with learning disabilities in Guernsey. The post holder will work with children and families in various settings, including their homes and the community, ensuring their wellbeing needs are met. Duties involve assisting with daily living, implementing care plans, and maintaining a homely environment. Essential criteria
- Strong communication skills, empathy, patience, problem-solving, and the ability to
- manage challenging behaviour.
- To be able to demonstrate organisational skills and a good standard of literacy and
- numeracy with the proven ability of completing administrative tasks and maintaining
- clear, concise records.
- Good information technology skills to use Microsoft Office and other bespoke
- computer software.
- Ability to relate to children with empathy and to work with a child centred approach
- together with an appreciation and commitment to anti-discriminatory practice.
- The ability to work effectively in a team and independently use own initiative
- Hold a valid B1 driving licence.
- A practical and flexible approach to work, willing to work unsocial hours, weekends,
- overnight stays and bank holidays.
- Ability to demonstrate an understanding of HSCs CARE Values.
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience of working with children with learning disabilities.
- Have or willingness to develop a knowledge of child development and the different needs associated with learning disability and/or complex health, physical, sensory and behaviour needs.
- The postholder will be supported to achieve either of the following within an agreed timeframe:
- Band 3 Competency Pathway, or
- Level 3 BTEC Advanced Certificate in Positive Behavioural Support

Job summary
The States of Guernsey are looking for a Support Worker to join the Short Breaks Service based at The Croft.
The post holder will be a member of a team that is based in the 7 bedded home. It provides short breaks and outreach support for children with learning disabilities.
In addition to the home, we also provided support to children and young people in their own homes, local community and provide day care during the school holidays.
Staff work alongside colleagues, and this includes senior staff. There are frequent occasions however when they will work without direct supervision and are required to manage their own workload.
The post holder will work with children and familys supporting vulnerable children and young people ensuring their general wellbeing needs are identified, met and maintained. They will be expected to carry out a wide range of duties as part of a team and independently to ensure a high level of quality care is delivered for the children.
The post holder will participate in providing and maintaining a homely environment promoting Ordinary life Principles respecting the dignity and rights of the children accessing the Short Breaks Service.
