Essential criteria
- 5 GCSE's A-C or equivalent, including English, Science and Maths
- National Clinical Coding Qualification (NCCQ)
- Clinical Coding Standards Course/ Up to date Clinical Coding Refresher Course
- Experience working under own initiative and as part of a team
- Experience sharing knowledge and skills with others
- Significant coding experience across a wide range of medical/surgical specialties within an acute NHS Trust
- Detailed knowledge of medical terminology, human anatomy and physiology
- Excellent working knowledge of National Clinical Coding standards, and their application
- Excellent reading comprehension ability
- Excellent IT skills including the ability to use Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to work under pressure and scrutiny, and show excellent attention to detail
Desirable criteria
- AMSPAR Qualification
- A Level or equivalent in science
- Experience of working with clinicians and divisional managers
- Experience in using a number of different NHS systems
- Knowledge of the impact of coding on HRGs and mortality measures
- Able to advise and support less experienced coders
