Essential criteria
- A degree or equivalent is required to meet the academic requirements of CBT training
- A core profession as recognised by the BABCP (Core Professions List -- BABCP)
- A level 6 qualification (typically this would be an undergraduate degree) and meet the eligibility for the BABCP Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes (KSA) route

- To be eligible for the KSA route you would need to have a minimum of 4 years of relevant training (including your core professional training or KSA equivalent) plus the duration of your CBT training course.

- It is expected that the KSA is completed prior to the course start date. Criterion 4 will be inspected at interview, and the final KSA must be formally submitted at the start of the course. Any offer to a KSA route student is on this condition being met.
- For any candidates who have previously completed a low intensity training programme (CWP or EMHP for example), two years of qualified practice following their previous training marks having been ratified by the exam board are required before undertaking this training programme
- Membership of BABCP once enrolled to the RTT course

- A foundation or basic knowledge of cognitive behavioural therapy

Job summary
Our service has an exciting opportunity to join the Mental Health Support Team on the Isle of Wight as a Recruit to Train Trainee, training on the PGDip Evidence-Based Psychological Treatment for Children and Young People (High Intensity) Course, part of the NHS England (NHSE) funded Recruit to Train Programme in partnership with University of Reading. This is a 12 month fixed term post starting in February 2027.
The post-holder will carry out clinical work in our service to complement their studies and use their newly developed skills. We are seeking highly motivated and enthusiastic mental health practitioners to work and train within our service. The training post will equip the post-holder to provide interventions for children, young people or families using evidence-based intervention consistent with the course they are attending.
The Mental Health Support Team is a 3-way collaboration and works in partnership with the IW Youth Trust and Barnardo's. In this role you will be line managed by the NHS but will work as 1 team with colleagues from Barnardo's and IW Youth Trust. We are a school based early intervention and prevention service, working with mild to moderate emotional and mental health difficulties providing CBT to children and young people aged 0-18 and their families who are experiencing emotional health and wellbeing difficulties.
