Role summary

This is a key role for an experienced and motivated Governance Manager to join the Divisional Governance Team. The role supports the delivery of high-quality governance, patient safety, risk management, and quality improvement across the Division. Working closely with clinical and operational leaders, you will help embed robust governance systems, support organisational learning, and drive improvements to enhance patient care and staff experience. The position involves coordinating governance processes, leading investigations, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

  • Support the effective coordination and delivery of governance processes across the Division.
  • Lead and coordinate governance activities including risk management, incident reporting, patient safety, complaints and clinical audit.
  • Support the implementation of the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF) and lead assigned learning responses and investigations.
  • Ensure divisional risks are effectively managed, maintained and escalated where appropriate.
  • Produce high-quality governance reports, performance dashboards and assurance information for governance meetings.
  • Analyse and triangulate data from incidents, complaints, audits and patient feedback to identify themes, risks and opportunities for improvement.

Essential criteria

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience in a relevant field (e.g. healthcare governance, quality, management, or patient safety)
  • Evidence of continuous professional development in governance, patient safety, or risk management
  • Formal training in incident investigation methodologies for PSIRF
  • Registered healthcare professional
  • Detailed knowledge of NHS quality governance frameworks and systems
  • Understanding of key regulatory requirements, including: o Care Quality Commission (CQC) standards o Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF) o Clinical audit and effectiveness frameworks o Complaints and risk management processes
  • Significant experience working in a healthcare governance, risk management or patient safety role
  • Experience of supporting incident management systems, including coordination and tracking of investigations
