Role summary

This role is for a dynamic, caring, and innovative Healthcare Assistant on Athelon Ward, a 14-bedded Acute Mental Health ward in Worcester. You will assist the nursing team in maintaining high standards of patient care, ensuring individuality and privacy are maintained. The role involves participating in activities to meet the occupational and psychological needs of patients. The ward operates a rotational shift pattern over 24 hours, seven days a week.

Essential criteria

  • Manual handling of patients, using lifting aids.
  • Experience of working in a care environment.
  • Good written and verbal English skills.
  • Can demonstrate an understanding of how to promote independence and facilitate learning in others.

  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of MHA issues.

  • I understand that the Trust will not routinely provide sponsorship to work for this role, and employment on a time limited visa doesn't guarantee sponsorship at point of expiry.
  • Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English in both verbal and written formats.
  • Treat patients with respect and dignity.
  • Ensure that own actions support equality, diversity, rights and quality.
  • Ability to follow a clear instruction and feed back to senior staff.
  • Good basic hygiene skills (e.g. food handling, hand washing, etc.).
  • Ability to work as part of a team, as well as on own initiative.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Vocational qualification level 3 or equivalent / level 2 qualification in care and willing to undertake relevant level 3 qualification upon appointment, or equivalent qualification or experience.
  • Will be expected to meet the Care Certificate standards within 12 weeks of commencing employment with the Trust
  • Management of Actual and Potential Aggression (MAPA) training.
  • I understand that I will be asked to provide original certificates to verify my qualifications at point of offer.

Athelon Ward is a 14 bedded, mixed gender

Acute Mental Health ward situated in Worcester and part of the provision of

acute inpatient services across Herefordshire and Worcestershire. It is a vital

service for supporting those with acute mental health difficulties of varying

complexities.

Athelon Ward has recently relocated to

Worcester resulting in a new, therapeutic ward environment to enhance patient

experience, and improve ward safety.

There are exciting opportunities for staff to be involved in collaborative

work with patients to improve their experiences and promote a culture of care.

Making Every Day Better for patients, staff, service users and carers is the

responsibility of all of us and we want to embed a culture within the

organisation that encourages and supports the drive to improve what we do. All

staff whatever their role, level or responsibility will be encouraged and
