Role summary
This role is for a dynamic Occupational Therapist to join the Band 6 inpatient rotations at Southend Hospital, initially focusing on elderly/frailty services. You will conduct rapid assessments and manage patients to facilitate safe discharge, providing necessary equipment and care recommendations. The position offers opportunities for clinical and managerial development within a fast-paced environment, supported by experienced team leaders and a comprehensive training program. You will manage a complex caseload, supervise staff, and contribute to service development with a person-centred approach.
Key responsibilities
- Rapid assessment and management of patients to facilitate safe discharge.
- Provision of necessary equipment and care recommendations.
- Day-to-day management of service delivery and complex caseloads.
- Supervising staff and becoming an accredited practice placement educator.
- Demonstrating strong leadership skills and a proactive approach to service development.
- Working with team leaders and the Clinical Lead on strategic and operational planning.
Essential criteria
- BSc in Occupational Therapy
- HCPC registration
- Evidence of CPD
- Varied experience at Band 5 level
- Experience in an inpatient setting
Desirable criteria
- Clinical Educators Course
- Experience supervising junior staff
- Experience working with elderly / frail population
- Experience working in an oncology unit
- Experience working with surgical patients

Job summary
Here at MSE, we are committed to providing a supportive environment for the development of Occupational Therapists. Our Southend Hospital department operates an integrated therapy service, where Occupational Therapists & Physiotherapists work alongside each other in a variety of the clinical areas. The culture of multi-disciplinary working is well established and respected within the hospital.
We are currently looking for a dynamic Occupational Therapist to join our band 6 inpatient rotations initially working across the elderly / frailty service. This position offers the opportunity to develop clinically and managerially in a fast paced environment working within our established Inpatient Therapy Team.
Our Inpatient Therapy Team is led by our Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist with the support of Band 7 Team Leaders who are highly experienced in their fields. We have regular Occupational therapy team meetings and actively encourage CPD.
In return we offer training and clinical development opportunities with a comprehensive in-service training program and regular clinical supervision. We also provide additional support in order for staff to attend recognised courses within the area of the post to support staff development. The Therapy
