Role summary
Join the St. Albans City Hospital Theatres as a highly motivated and dynamic Senior Theatre Practitioner. This role involves the safe management and monitoring of post-anaesthetised/surgical patients, ensuring their safe discharge to ward care. You will also demonstrate leadership qualities by performing day-to-day managerial tasks, including staff allocation. Both Registered Nurses and ODPs are welcome to apply.
Key responsibilities
- Be responsible for the safe management of the post anaesthetised/surgical patient and in doing so promote the safe discharge of the patient to ward care.
- Be responsible for the monitoring and nursing management of the surgical patient e.g. airway management, wounds, drains and pain management.
- Demonstrate clear leadership qualities in order to perform day to day managerial tasks, including allocation of staff etc.
Essential criteria
- First level registration with the NMC.
- ODP registration
- Evidence of professional development
- Up to date knowledge of relevant political and professional issues in health care
- Understanding of principles of budget management
- Considerable experience within the specialty
- Teaching and facilitating experience
- Commitment to clinical effectiveness and evidence-based care.
- Experience as a Band 5.
- Knowledge of Clinical Governance & Benchmarking
- Ability to articulate a vision for theatre practitioners.
- Ability to command the confidence of colleagues.
- Effective team working and facilitation skills with an ability to work autonomously as appropriate
- Negotiation and conflict resolution skills
- Ability to write clear concise and relevant reports, communication orally and inwritten form with clarity and precision.
- Familiar with the concept of clinical supervision
Desirable criteria
- Working towards a degree
- ILS/ALS.
- Post-registration education programme related to speciality.
- Knowledge of developing care pathways
- Computer literate Experience of evaluating clinical practice using research and/or audit techniques
