Role summary
This role involves working as an Imaging Assistant within the Imaging Department, contributing to patient care and ensuring the smooth running of the department. Duties include interacting with patients and colleagues, preparing patients for scans, assisting with personal hygiene, and safely transferring patients. Flexibility for 7-day working across Luton Hospital and Luton CDC is required.
Key responsibilities
- Work as a member of the Imaging team, interacting and liaising with colleagues, patients and public.
- Prepare the patient in accordance to scan requirements and assist them to change and escort them.
- To correctly transfer patients onto the imaging bed according to Trust policy and ensure their continued safety.
- Recognise signs of a deteriorating patient and be able to act accordingly.
- Have knowledge of radiation safety and MRI safety, attending all required training sessions.
- To assist patients to maintain their personal hygiene, to include toileting and the safe handling and disposal of body fluids.
Essential criteria
- GCSE Maths and English (Grades A* to G) or equivalent.
Desirable criteria
- L3 Health and Social Care Qualification or equivalent experience (minimum of 12 months)
- Has undertaken the Care Certificate.
- Experience and skills
- Demonstrable experience in dealing with people who are sick and distressed or equivalent customer focused employment.
- Experience of team working.
- Basic IT skills.
- Previous experience in a healthcare role at Band 2 or equivalent e.g. carer for family member.
- Knowledge or understanding of the role which includes patient care, limited clinical duties and relevant legislation.
- Personal Skills
- Kind and compassionate.
- Good communication skills.

Job summary
To undertake the role of an Imaging Assistant within the Imaging Department. As an Imaging Assistant, your duty will be to ensure the smooth running of the Department by contributing to patient care and pathways. As the Trust moves to a 7 day working, flexibility will be required to facilitate all scanning sessions at the Luton Hospital site and the Luton CDC.
Main duties of the job
To work as a member of the Imaging team, interacting and liaising with colleagues, patients and public.
Ensure tact, diplomacy and professionalism at all times, overcoming barriers to communication where necessary.
Flexible approach to the working environment being able to adapt to unpredictable events .
Act as a chaperone when required.
To liaise with the wider hospital multi-disciplinary team to efficiently arrange all imaging investigations.
Prepare the patient in accordance to scan requirements. Assist patients to change and escort them to the appropriate area of the department.
To be able to adapt care in accordance to patients' needs demonstrating empathy and reassurance.
Recognise signs of a deteriorating patient and be able to act accordingly.
