Role summary

Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust is seeking two enthusiastic and motivated Band 6 Specialist Speech and Language Therapists to join their well-established Adult Acute SLT service. These roles involve providing high-quality care across one of the UK's leading teaching hospitals, specifically in Adult Acute Medicine and Surgery or Adult Acute Stroke. Successful candidates will manage adults with acquired communication and swallowing disorders, working independently within a multidisciplinary environment. The positions offer excellent supervision, peer support, and opportunities for professional development.

Essential criteria

  • Diploma/Degree leading to RCSLT licence to practice
  • Registered member of HCPC
  • Evidence of CPD to Specialist level

Desirable criteria

  • Membership/regular attendance of CEN
  • Previous Experience
  • Experience of working with adults with acquired disorders in an acute hospital and/or rehabilitation/community setting including independent management of dysphagia (POST 1) OR Experience of working with adults with acquired neurological disorders, in acute and/or rehabilitation/community settings, including working at a specialist level with stroke care and independent management of dysphagia (POST 2)
  • Experience of working as an integrated member of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Experience of multi-disciplinary goal planning and using outcome measures
  • Participation in clinical governance activities (audit, quality improvement)
  • Experience of working on Acute inpatient wards
  • Experience of working in neuro rehabilitation
  • Experience of working with assistants, junior colleagues and/or volunteers
  • Evidence of development and delivery of training to other professionals
  • Experience of performing and evaluating videofluoroscopy
  • Supervision and teaching of SLT students
  • Good, reliable team worker and also able to work effectively on own initiative
  • Exposure to/experience with FEES

Specialist Speech & Language Therapist (Band 6) Full Time | Permanent

Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust is seeking two enthusiastic and motivated Speech and Language Therapists to join our well-established Adult Acute SLT service. You will become part of a supportive team of 29.2 WTE SLTs and 1.5 WTE SLT Assistants, delivering high-quality care across one of the UK's leading teaching hospitals.

We are recruiting to two specialist Band 6 roles based at St Thomas' Hospital:

Post 1: Adult Acute Medicine and Surgery: providing assessment and management of adults with acquired communication and swallowing disorders across inpatient medical and surgical wards.

Post 2: Adult Acute Stroke: working within the multidisciplinary stroke team to assess and manage communication and swallowing disorders on the Stroke Unit.

Suitable applicants will have post-graduate experience managing adults with acquired communication and swallowing disorders and be confident working independently within a multidisciplinary environment. Teaching and service development form an important part of both roles.
