Role summary

This role is for a motivated, GPHC-registered Pharmacy Technician with an Accuracy Checking qualification to join the Pharmacy Homecare Team. You will support the delivery and development of Homecare Medicines and Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT) services, ensuring safe and timely supply of medicines to patients through homecare providers. The position involves coordinating prescriptions, patient registrations, and orders, acting as a point of contact for various stakeholders, and contributing to service improvement. You will also be involved in ordering, dispensing, accuracy checking medicines, and patient counselling. This is an opportunity to develop specialist knowledge in a growing area of pharmacy practice.

Key responsibilities

  • Support the delivery and ongoing development of the Trust's Homecare Medicines and OPAT services.
  • Coordinate homecare prescriptions, patient registrations, renewals, and orders, ensuring compliance with regulations.
  • Act as a point of contact for patients, homecare providers, and clinical teams, resolving enquiries and issues.
  • Contribute to monitoring homecare provider performance, investigating incidents and complaints, and supporting service improvement.
  • Order, dispense, and accuracy check medicines, support medicines reconciliation, and counsel patients.
  • Maintain accurate records, contribute to audit and governance activities, and support new therapy introductions.

Essential criteria

  • Registered Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Accuracy Checking qualification Level 3
  • Experience of medicines management/optimisation
  • Minimum 1 years experience as a qualified pharmacy technician
  • Ability to cope with large unpredictable workloads in a timely, efficient and reliable manner
  • Good communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Good level of experience of IT software, in particular good Excel spreadsheet skills and Pharmacy IT system

Desirable criteria

  • Level 4 qualification in medicines management or equivalent, or working towards
  • Experience of hospital pharmacy, homecare and OPAT
  • Experience of financial processes
  • Clinical ward based pharmacy experience
  • Experience of complaints and incident processes
