Role summary
This role involves delivering specialist dietetic services within Child and Adolescent Mental Health (CAMH) at CPFT, focusing on eating disorder pathways and inpatient units. The post holder will manage a complex caseload, providing assessment, diagnosis, and tailored nutritional treatment. Key responsibilities include maintaining high standards of care, accurate records, and contributing to service development and education. The role requires independent travel across the county.
Key responsibilities
- Provide a specialist dietetic service to the Specialist Eating Disorders pathway (Beacon).
- Provide a specialist dietetic service to the tertiary CAMH in patient units.
- Nutritionally diagnose, advise, and formulate treatment plans for patients, relatives, and carers.
- Maintain accurate records of all patient consultations and related work.
- Lead projects dealing with new ways of working in mental health, identifying areas for improvement.
- Act as a point of reference for dietetic colleagues and other health professionals regarding mental health nutrition.
Essential criteria
- Significant post registration experience at a senior level
- Nutritional support experience including tube feeding
- Multidisciplinary team working.
- Understanding of the nature of community care in the NHS and a strong desire to work in the community setting
- Experience in working with children and young people
- Experience working in mental health
- Qualification in dietetics recognised by the HCPC for registration as a dietitian working in the UK.
- Masters level qualification or equivalent work experience
- Strong CPD evidence in portfolio for ongoing maintenance of competencies
- Higher skilled dietetic practitioner.
- Ability to advise on the manipulation of relevant medications within safe boundaries
- Organisational skills.
- Strong communication skills and ability to communicate complex ideas to a variety of audiences.
- Self starter - able to problem solve and take a strategic view.
- Ability to be innovative and take initiative.
- Can manage own time and workload, showing the ability to prioritise critical work.
- Demonstrates an understanding of the significance of safeguarding issues and interprets this accurately for all adults and children.
- Has a realistic knowledge of personal strengths and areas for development.
- Accepts responsibility and accountability for own work and can define the responsibilities of others.
- Demonstrates empathy for the concerns of others
Desirable criteria
- Experience of research and audit.
- Previous experience in mentoring and clinical supervision of dietetic colleagues
- Active participation in student training in previous post(s).
- Working at a strategic level with clinical units/GP partners, including Local Commissioning Groups, Medicines Management, ICS.
- Clinical supervision training
- Previous publications or presentations at local, national or international level.
- Recognised patient group education training
- Student Training course.
- Masters or equivalent in a therapeutic clinical area, eg Family Therapy
- Post graduate qualifications in paediatric dietetics
- Familiar with the FBT manualised model of working with young people and there families living with Eating Disorders
- Record of project management experience and outcomes
- Previous use of Systm1 or equivalent IT system.

The post holder will manage a complex caseload, providing assessment, diagnosis, and tailored nutritional treatment while maintaining high standards of care, accurate records, and professional accountability.
The role contributes to service development and education, including training delivery, supervising staff and students, and supporting evidence-based practice. Working closely with the multidisciplinary team, to help improve services, manage clinical risk, and provide expert guidance on mental health nutrition.
