Role summary
This is a senior clinical role for an autonomous Physiotherapist specialising in musculoskeletal conditions. The post holder will assess and treat complex cases, provide clinical expertise to junior staff and the wider MDT, and lead on service development projects. The role involves working across various clinical settings, including outpatient and consultant-led clinics, and requires adherence to Trust values and professional standards. The successful candidate will also contribute to teaching, supervision, and appraisal of staff.
Key responsibilities
- Manage own designated caseload of patients and maintain up-to-date physiotherapy records.
- Use evidence-based principles to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate physiotherapy interventions.
- Provide day-to-day line management, supervision, teaching, and support to junior staff, assistants, and students.
- Participate in and encourage CPD and developmental activities within the team.
- Work with multi-disciplinary team (MDT) colleagues to deliver best practice and propose changes based on new evidence.
- Ensure adherence to Trust policy and guidelines and role model Trust values.
Essential criteria
- BSc or Diploma in Physiotherapy
- HCPC registration
- Postgraduate education/courses in Musculoskeletal physiotherapy within the last year
- Relevant level 7 or equivalent qualifications (achieved or currently working towards)
- Trust values
- Evidence of Band 6 or equivalent in musculoskeletal outpatients
- Evidence of band 5 or equivalent experience in a broad range of rotations including musculoskeletal and orthopaedics.
- Evidence of appraisal, supervision and teaching of Band 5 physiotherapists, assistants, students and other members of the MDT
- Experience of working as part of an MDT in clinical practice
- Evidence of active participation in in-service training
- Evidence of active involvement of service development
- Experience in the UK or an equivalent public healthcare system
- Demonstrates highly specialist knowledge of musculoskeletal assessment and treatment.
- Demonstrates evidence-based practice approach
- Ability to work autonomously within specialist clinical area and monitor workload of team.
- The ability to use reflective practice as a tool for growth and development
- Understanding of the professional and legal responsibilities of clinical practice
- Awareness and sensitivity to cultural differences and beliefs
- Evidence of effective self-management including time, prioritisation, clinical caseload and stress
- Experience of data collection for quality monitoring / audit
- Experience of risk management / assessment
- Demonstrates awareness of national and local policies related to clinical practice
- Knowledge of safety issues through clinical governance and risk management
- Excellent communication skills with patients, relatives, staff and external contacts, including in challenging situations, demonstrating respect and kindness

- Evidence of previous experience at Band 7 (or equivalent level) in musculoskeletal outpatients.
- Evidence of appraisal of band 6 level staff

- Evidence of working in a variety of MSK services e.g. A&E, GP Practices, Rheumatology, Orthopaedic clinics
- Evidence of specific responsibilities e.g. committee membership
- Evidence of participation in research or audit

Job summary
Part-time.
Working pattern is Monday 8.00-18:00, Wednesday 10.00-5.45 and Friday 08:00-18.00
The post holder will be a clearly identifiable senior clinical staff member with significant clinical experience, working as an autonomous practitioner providing highly specialised musculoskeletal physiotherapy assessment and treatment to a caseload of complex musculoskeletal conditions.
In addition the post holder will provide sound clinical expertise to their team and more junior staff as well as the wider MDT.
The post holder will also demonstrate a high standard of skills and behaviours in line with the 4 pillars of practice: Clinical Practice; Facilitative Learning; Leadership and Research and Development. Therefore in addition to being a role model for highly specialised clinical care the post holder will also take a lead on specific projects, service development, and managerial responsibilities through their own initiative as well as those delegated by the Clinical Lead Therapist or Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioners.
They will role model the identified Trust values at all times.
