Role summary
This role is for an experienced Clinical Practitioner to work as a Bank Emergency Nurse Practitioner within Central London Urgent Care/Walk-in Services. The post holder will autonomously provide high-quality, evidence-based care to patients with undifferentiated health problems, including minor injuries and ailments. It involves utilising expert diagnostic skills and clinical reasoning to manage acute conditions, collaborating with other healthcare professionals and services. The role requires working shifts within operating hours, which are currently 8 am-8 pm.
Key responsibilities
- Provide high quality evidence-based care to patients attending with injuries and undifferentiated health problems.
- Work as an autonomous practitioner delivering care to patients, utilising expert diagnostic skills and clinical reasoning.
- Deliver care in collaboration with Emergency services, other health care professionals, statutory and voluntary agencies.
- Work in association with colleagues to define standards of care and practice aimed at maintaining, developing or improving quality.
- Work with senior staff in the operational management and organisational development of the service.
- Work shifts within the service during operating hours (currently 8am-8pm).
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse with current NMC registration or Registered Health Professional (physio, paramedic) with HCPC.
- Evidence of continued professional development
- Proven experience of utilising expert diagnostic and clinical skills to provide autonomous, unscheduled medical care and management of patients presenting with undifferentiated and undiagnosed conditions.
- Proven experience in assessing, managing and treating minor injuries and minor illnesses.
- Experience of effectively working in collaboration, negotiating and liaising across organisational boundaries.
- Experience in monitoring clinical standards.
- Proven ability to prioritise and manage own workload with minimal supervision
- Experience caring for patients of all age ranges.
- Minimum of five years' experience in either emergency/ unscheduled care or a primary care environment
- Evidence of comprehensive range of clinical skills and expertise relevant to the role
- Competent in physical examination of patients of all ages
- Basic IT skills including use of Microsoft Office package and email
- Specialist knowledge in clinical reasoning, history taking, physical examination, diagnostic skills and prescribing/treatment
- Advanced knowledge and understanding of anatomy and physiology of body systems.
- Clinical knowledge across a range of long-term conditions.
- Knowledge of recent developments in unscheduled care.
- Knowledge of monitoring service outcome measures.
- Knowledge of adult and children's safeguarding procedures.
- Knowledge of Personal Development Planning.
- Knowledge of current health care policy and legislation and relevance to the delivery of healthcare services
- Detailed knowledge of Primary Health Care and collaborative working with other care providers, e.g. social care and voluntary services
- Knowledge of the audit process and able to implement in practice
- Knowledge of evidence based practice and able to implement in practice
- Knowledge of clinical governance processes, assessing and managing risk
- Knowledge of clinical supervision
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of continuing professional education and training at Masters level in an Advanced Clinical Practitioner program or willingness to work towards an MSc in Advanced Practice.
- Independent Prescriber (or on pathway to complete)
- Qualification in prehospital care or community care
- Qualification in teaching or practice-based learning.
- University accredited Minor injuries Module
- Paediatric Nurse Practitioner qualification
- University accredited paediatric advanced assessment module
- Experience of team / service/ staff management.
- Experience of implementing evidence-based care and developing others to do so
- Experience of conducting research projects and audit.
