Role summary
This role is for a dedicated Band 5 Operating Department Practitioner or Anaesthetic Nurse to join the Theatre team at Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will provide safe and effective care to patients undergoing surgical procedures in both Main and Day Surgery Theatre suites. Responsibilities include assessing, planning, delivering, and evaluating patient care, contributing to team leadership, and supporting service improvement. The service operates Monday to Saturday, including rotational weekend working.
Key responsibilities
- Provide safe, high-quality and evidence-based post-operative care to patients in recovery.
- Assess, plan, deliver and evaluate care independently, maintaining dignity, privacy, confidentiality and compassionate communication.
- Act as a positive role model and expert resource, working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team.
- Prioritise workload, support timely theatre starts, admissions and discharges, and manage risks.
- Undertake leadership duties, support staff development, and mentor students and junior staff.
- Maintain professional development through reflection, appraisal and training, adhering to professional and Trust standards.
Essential criteria
- NMC registered Nurse
- HCPC registered Operating Department Practitioner
- Post registration experience and continued learning
- Evidence of professional development
- Demonstrate ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care according to individual needs.
