Role summary
This role is for a Complex Trauma Cognitive Behavioural Therapist within the Ascend Service, focusing on sexual abuse and assault. The therapist will assess patient suitability, deliver trauma-focused interventions, and provide clinical supervision. The position requires a BABCP accredited CBT Therapist with at least two years of experience in trauma work. The role is part-time, based in Cannock, with a mix of office and remote working.
Key responsibilities
- Make decisions on the suitability of new referrals, identifying the most suitable service for the patient.
- Formulate, implement and evaluate individual therapy programmes for patients that fall between Primary and Secondary services.
- Attend Inter service meetings with regard to referrals.
- Liaise with other health and social care staff from a range of agencies with a regard to referrals.
- Promote and maintain links with services across the Trust to help co-ordinate provision of an effective Psychological Therapies Service.
- Provide specialist advice to other professionals from the Trust and voluntary agencies in regard to our therapeutic service provision.
Essential criteria
- Trained to Post Graduate Diploma LevelE.g. CBT
- Significant experience working as a psychological therapy practitioner and demonstrating the competences as required.
- BABCP Accredited
- Minimum 2 years post qualification experience in providing CBT
- Demonstrable experience of working in mental health services
- evidence of working in TT
Desirable criteria
- Relevant experience in Primary Care treating anxiety and depression.
- Experience of working with victims/survivors of sexual assault and abuse

Job summary

Join our team as a Complex Trauma Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (CBT) within our established Ascend Service (Sexual Abuse and Assault Pathway) for 2 days a week, based in Cannock.
The Ascend Service is provided by Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, North Staffordshire Combined NHS Trust, VCSE (Survive and Woman's Aid) and Staffordshire Police Crime Commissioner.
The team comprises of a Consultant Clinical Psychologist, CBT Therapists, Assistant Psychologists and Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners to work with patients presenting with sexual abuse complex trauma with responsibility for assessing patient suitability and delivering evidenced based, trauma focused interventions and clinical supervision.
You will be a BABCP accredited CBT Therapist with a minimum of 2 years of demonstratable clinical experience of working with people experiencing trauma and will need clinical supervision training to deliver clinical supervision to the teams PWP's. Training in EMDR and/or experience of working in secondary care mental health services would be desirable.
