Role summary

This is a Band 4 Medical Technologist Apprenticeship within the Lane Fox Respiratory Unit. Key responsibilities

  • Support installation, setup, servicing, and collection of respiratory equipment in hospital, clinic, and community settings.
  • Provide technical input to support patient discharge and continuity of care.
  • Communicate clearly with patients, families, and carers regarding safe use and care of equipment.
  • Provide clear technical advice to consultants, nurses, physiotherapists, and other healthcare professionals.

Essential criteria

  • Full UK Driver's Licence
  • Travel to patients home and other sites.
  • GCSE Grade 4/C or above in English Language and Mathematics (or equivalent, including Functional Skills Level 2).
  • A Level 3 qualification in a relevant STEM subject area such as Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or Electronics.
  • Eligibility to meet the entry requirements for an approved Healthcare Engineering/Clinical Engineering [contact details removed] programme.
  • Minimum UCAS tariff points of 96 (or equivalent qualifications acceptable to the partnered apprenticeship provider/university).
  • Equivalent qualifications such as BTEC, Access to HE, International Baccalaureate, Irish Highers, or Level 3 Engineering qualifications are welcomed.

Job Overview

We are seeking a motivated and technically skilled Medical Technologist Apprentice (Band 4) to join the Technical Services team at the Lane Fox Respiratory Unit.

The post holder will support the maintenance, servicing, setup, and safe clinical use of respiratory and ventilation equipment used across hospital wards, satellite units, and patients' homes. Working under the guidance of Senior and Chief Medical Technologists, the role requires developing technical competence, sound judgement, and effective communication with patients and the multidisciplinary team.

This post will be appointed as:

  • a Band 4, 4-year Annex 21 developmental post with a 3-year Degree Apprenticeship programme.

Annex 21 - Degree Apprenticeship (4 Years)

  • Undertake and successfully complete a recognised Degree Apprenticeship in an engineering discipline as part of the Annex 21 developmental programme.
  • Training delivered through a combination of academic study and supervised workplace learning.
  • A structured competency framework and training plan will be agreed at appointment.
