Role summary
This fixed-term School Nurse role, for up to 14 months, involves working 30 hours per week with children and families in the Forest of Dean locality. The successful candidate will be a registered nurse or midwife, providing advice, support, and signposting to improve the health and wellbeing of young people. The role focuses on public health skills, safeguarding children, and empowering families and communities.
Key responsibilities
- Assess and implement programmes of care from the Healthy Child Programme, as directed by the Specialist Community Public Health Nurse.
- Progress interventions based on identified risk factors impacting a child's health outcomes.
- Provide leadership and act as a role model to junior team members, aligning with nursing profession values and GHC Values Framework.
- Assess global health needs of communities, schools, and children to prevent disadvantage due to ill health or social circumstances.
- Promote and monitor health in school-aged children, identifying physical and mental health needs, disability, and developmental/behavioural problems.
- Work with schools to create a healthy environment using data and in partnership with the Healthy Schools Programme.
Essential criteria
- Demonstrates an understanding of public health nursing in application
- Has some knowledge/experience of safeguarding children
- Strong time management and organisation skills
- Shows emotional strength and resilience
Desirable criteria
- Has previous experience of working with children and families

Job summary
This role is offered on a fixed term basis for up to 14 months to backfill a maternity leave.
We are looking for a registered nurse or midwife to work with children and families in the School Nursing team in Forest of Dean locality based in Lydney. The post is 30 hours per week year round.
