Role summary
This is a part-time Senior Therapy Assistant role within the Neurosciences team at Queen Elizabeth Hospital. The post holder will support acute rehabilitation and discharge planning for patients on inpatient wards, working alongside registered Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists. The role involves managing an appropriate caseload independently, focusing on rehabilitating patients with neurological conditions to enable safe discharge. This opportunity allows for development of clinical knowledge and skills to optimize patient independence.
Essential criteria
- * English and Maths Level 4 or equivalent or functional skills Level 2.
- * Evidence of personal development related to healthcare.
Desirable criteria
- * Assistant membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, Royal College of Occupational Therapy or other relevant professional body.
- * Significant experience as a Therapy Assistant within an inpatient setting.
- * Able to work independently with guidance.
- * A knowledge of the aims and principles of occupational therapy/physiotherapy.
- * An understanding of the implications of illness and disability on function and health and basic aims of rehabilitation and discharge planning.
- * An understanding of safe provision and use of patient equipment in this area.
- * An understanding of confidentiality and data protection in healthcare.
- * Experience of working as a Band 3 Therapy Assistant.
- * Experience of working in Neurology, Neurosurgery, Stroke or with clients with physical and /or cognitive impairment.
- * An understanding of working on acute hospital wards/experience of working in an acute health setting.

Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part-time Senior Therapy Assistant to join the Neurosciences team within Therapy Services at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham. The post is 18.75 hours -- shift patterns can be discussed.
The successful post holder will support the acute rehabilitation and discharge planning of patients across the inpatient wards, working alongside a team of registered Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists. The successful candidate will work closely with other Therapy Assistants to ensure there are appropriate and skilled management of patients physical and cognitive needs, as outlined by the registered therapists on the ward.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone who wishes to develop their clinical knowledge and skills to support patients to optimise their independence while in hospital and on discharge. The ideal candidate should have good communication, interpersonal and organisational skills, and should be able to demonstrate initiative in managing their own caseload.
The ability to work as part of a team is essential to this post, as well as to be able to work to an assigned caseload independently.
