Role summary
This role supports the safe and effective management of medical devices, primarily Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) therapy equipment, within the Sleep Physiology Service. The postholder will coordinate tracking, maintenance, retrieval, and distribution of equipment, ensuring it is safe and fit for purpose for patients in hospital and community settings. It involves maintaining accurate records, liaising with Clinical Engineering, and providing patient support for equipment-related enquiries. The role requires working independently within protocols and escalating concerns appropriately.
Key responsibilities
- Support the provision of an effective and safe clinical service at Queen Victoria Hospital.
- Provide safe, efficient storage and maintenance of medical equipment, acting as liaison with suppliers and external maintenance providers.
- Perform routine functional checks and calibration of CPAP devices, and conduct first-line fault finding and basic repairs.
- Maintain up to date records of daily, weekly, monthly check lists and duties, including training records.
- Act as a support to the Decontamination Lead ensuring continuity of the service.
- Effectively liaise with multidisciplinary team, patients and their carers in a professional and compassionate manner.
Essential criteria
- Practical experience in the maintenance of medical devices
- Experience of caring for and supporting patients in a sleep disorder centre environment
- Level 4or Level 4 Diploma (NVQ) in Health care support or able to demonstrate knowledge within this field through practical experience
- Experience of medical device maintenance
- Decontamination training or experience
- Awareness of patient confidentiality and safeguarding
- Knowledge of training and development within a healthcare setting or willingness to undertake training
- Proven organisational skills, able to organise workload to meet deadlines
- Excellent communication skills both written and oral
Desirable criteria
- Experience of supporting and training HCA's
- Clinical, electrical or technical qualification

Job summary
The Assistant Medical Devices Coordinator supports the safe, efficient and effective management of medical devices within the Sleep Physiology Service, with a particular focus on Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) therapy equipment used by patients in both hospital and community settings.
Working under the direction of the Deputy for Sleep and Respiratory Physiology and the Sleep Physiology Manager, the postholder is responsible for supporting the tracking, maintenance, retrieval, distribution and governance of medical devices, ensuring equipment is safe, available and fit for purpose. The role plays an important part in supporting patient care through effective asset management, stock control, equipment monitoring and patient support.
The postholder will work collaboratively with Sleep Physiology staff, Clinical Engineering, suppliers, external service providers and other healthcare professionals to ensure the smooth operation of medical device processes across the service. They will contribute to maintaining accurate equipment records, supporting governance requirements and improving the utilisation of Trust assets.
