Role summary

This is a 12-month fixed-term maternity cover opportunity for a Band 7 Senior Radiotherapy Physicist at the Royal Free Hospital.   • Honours first degree (1st or 2nd) in physics or containing a major physics component.
  • Relevant MSc or higher degree or equivalent level of knowledge
  • Successful completion of MSC STP in Radiotherapy Physics, ACS Route 2 ,AHCS STP Equivalence or equivalent.
  • Registered Clinical Scientist with HCPC or eligible for membership within 1 year
  • Specialist theoretical and practical knowledge and experience of radiation dosimetry, patient dosimetry, treatment unit technology, treatment planning systems, quality assurance, dosimetry equipment and computer systems in radiotherapy
  • Knowledge of clinical procedures and practices in radiotherapy.
  • Broad understanding of patient and staff risks arising from equipment failure and staff error.
  • Understanding of patient and staff risks arising from treatment planning computer system errors, equipment failure, treatment errors and incorrect dosimetry.
  • Understanding of hazards posed by, and precautions needed with: ionising radiation, non-ionising radiation and electrical hazards

Job summary

The Radiotherapy Physics Service is responsible for providing clinical,technical and scientific support to the Radiotherapy Department at theRoyal Free London NHS Foundation Trust.

The Service is a multi-disciplinary team consisting of Clinical Scientists,Therapy Radiographers and Clinical Technologist staff.
