Role summary
This is an exciting new post for a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to join a specialist CAMHS workstream, including inpatient, crisis, and community eating disorders services. The role involves undertaking assessments and interventions for young people, particularly those with diagnosed or suspected neurodivergence. You will support multidisciplinary teams in understanding communication needs, contribute to diagnostic pathways, and provide post-diagnostic interventions. The post holder will manage a complex caseload, make autonomous decisions, and contribute to multi-agency liaison, consultation, and training.
Essential criteria
- Accredited degree or equivalent Certificate to Practice (SLT)
- Registered with HCPC (Health Care Professionals Council)
- Evidence of completion of highly specialist short courses, other postgraduate training or relevant master's degree.
- Member of RCSLT
- Member of relevant special interest group
Desirable criteria
- Pre-qualification training or experience with children and adolescents with autism
- Additional qualifications relating to the assessment of autism e.g. ADI, ADOS training
- Additional qualifications in delivery of group interventions for children with Autism
- Knowledge/Experience
- Highly comprehensive theoretical knowledge of paediatric communication impairments.
- Knowledge of implications of 2014 Children and Families Act - SEN sections Knowledge and use of up to-date assessment procedures and therapy techniques in specialist fields.
- Considerable experience of working with children with SLCN.
- Considerable experience working within relevant specialist area.
- Considerable experience of working within a multidisciplinary team
- Considerable experience of working in partnership with parents/carers and other professionals.
- Experience of working in an inner-city multi-ethnic environment
- Experience in assessment and therapeutic work with children and families across the age range - particular experience with working with autistic children.
- Experience of multidisciplinary teamwork.
- Experience of consulting with health care and other professionals.
- Experience in designing, planning and undertaking clinical research/service evaluation.
- Experience in teaching and training staff from other professional groups
- Experience of supporting less experienced staff.

Job summary
This is an exciting new post that will offer the post holder the opportunity to be part of a specialist CAMHS workstream that includes the inpatient CAMH service, Crisis Service and Community Eating Disorders Service. You will work with these three multi-disciplinary teams to undertake assessment and interventions for young people including those with diagnosed or suspected neurodivergence.
The post holder will support the teams shared understanding of the young person's communication and social communication to aid treatment and interventions. Assessment may form part of a diagnostic pathway in conjunction with the services MDT. This will include supporting parents and the young person's understanding of these differences and post diagnostic interventions.
The postholder will provide assessment and intervention, managing their own complex caseload and making autonomous decisions within the remit of their skills and training.
The post-holder duties will include contributing to multi-agency liaison, consultation and training of other professionals, and contribute to the management and development of the services.
