Role summary

This role involves teaching and assessing various clinical and procedural skills to medical students and postgraduate multidisciplinary groups. The post holder will work autonomously, planning and coordinating activities within the clinical skills suite. Responsibilities include developing and delivering competency-based clinical education, managing equipment, and supporting staff and candidates. The role also requires assisting with lesson plan updates and acting as a role model to enhance clinical knowledge.

Key responsibilities

  • Participate in the development, implementation and delivery of competency based clinical education and assessment to a wide range of candidates.
  • Plan and co-ordinate the day-to-day activities of the clinical skills suite using a range of manikins, medical equipment, IT and audio-visual systems.
  • Take / facilitate appropriate action as a result of complex clinical or non-clinical issues, supporting staff and candidates at all levels.
  • Assist with the update of lesson plans, assessment tools and teaching resources as required.
  • Deliver practical teaching sessions to candidates adhering to guidance from the GMC document Practical skills and procedures.
  • Be able to organise, teach, facilitate & evaluate post graduate clinical skills courses for all levels of medical and non-medical professionals.

Essential criteria

  • Current UK healthcare professional registration (NMC/HCPC)
  • Recognised teaching/assessing qualification.
  • First degree in relevant healthcare profession or working towards
  • Evidence of continuous professional development
  • Significant post-registration clinical experience in an acute healthcare setting at Band 5.
  • Evidence of supporting change, service improvement, or educational activities.
  • Experience of working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Knowledge of the curriculum requirements of undergraduate medical students
  • Knowledge of the practical clinical skills expected of post graduate nurses/doctors/AHPs
  • The ability to develop and apply evidence based educational strategies & learning resources
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively.
  • Analyses problems and implements effective and appropriate solutions.
  • Able to use initiative and make decisions.
  • Ability to organise workload, prioritise tasks and respond flexibly to service demands.
  • Be self-aware; ability to manage conflict, sensitive and challenging situations.
  • Must be able to demonstrate behaviours consistent with the Trust's values. (As detailed in UHCW's Values in Action document below)

  • AIM / ALERT instructor
  • Previous experience of teaching multi professional groups of staff.

Job summary

The post holder will be working as part of the clinical skills team teaching and assessing multiple clinical / procedural skills to groups of medical students and postgraduate multidisciplinary client groups both internal and external to UHCW NHS Trust.
