Role summary

This role is for a motivated Medical Secretary/PA to join the General Surgery Team, providing secretarial and administrative support to two Consultant General Surgeons. The service is fast-paced, requiring high-level typing, administrative, and communication skills. The successful candidate will ensure the smooth running of the Lower GI Surgery Service and assist with the administrative workload, enabling Consultants to focus on clinical commitments. Key responsibilities

  • Provide a comprehensive and efficient secretarial service to Consultant(s) and their medical team.
  • Personally assist with the administrative workload to optimise Consultant clinical commitment.
  • Exercise initiative and judgement, maintaining confidentiality at all times.
  • Provide an empathic and sensitive point of contact for patients/relatives and carers.
  • Be responsible for the day-to-day training and supervision of other medical secretaries/clerical support workers.

Essential criteria

  • *Good General Education (eg. GCSE English and Maths A-C) GCSE Level 9-4
  • *Business Administration NVQ level 3 or equivalent experience in a clerical environment
  • *AMSPAR Certificate/equivalent qualification or equivalent knowledge of medical terminology
  • *Working knowledge of medical terminology
  • *Experience of working as a Medical Secretary
  • *Experience of dealing with the Public/Customer service experience
  • *Experience of working with a range of Microsoft Office packages (e.g. Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • *Experience of using IT systems
  • *Experience of working in Healthcare
  • *Good Organisational skills

Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity to recruit a motivated and passionate Medical Secretary/PA to our General Surgery Team. You will work collaboratively with the current Secretarial Team and provide secretarial and administrative support two Consultant General Surgeons. The General Surgery Service is busy and fast paced, providing a high level of care to patients with both malignant and benign conditions.

Previous medical secretarial experience is essential, with high level typing and administrative skills. Excellent communication skills, time management and prioritisation skills, as well as attention to detail, are also essential in order to meet Trust Targets and tight deadlines. You will need to be a friendly individual who enjoys working as part of a Team, as well as individually, as the other Medical Secretaries do. Our Medical Secretaries ensure the smooth running of the Lower GI Surgery Service, whilst carrying out secretarial and administrative duties to a high standard.
