Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Emergency Department at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Gateshead, as a Trainee Junior Nurse Practitioner. The role involves working autonomously under supervision to plan and deliver care for patients in the ED, including paediatrics and adults with various conditions. The post is a 4-year fixed-term position, starting at Band 6 and progressing to Band 7 upon completion of non-medical prescribing, eventually leading to a substantive Band 8a Advanced Practitioner role.
Key responsibilities
- Work autonomously but under close supervision in the planning and delivery of care and interventions for patients attending the Emergency Department.
- Continuously improve clinical care standards in line with the clinical governance framework.
- Engage in education and training provided by Advanced Practitioners and medical staff.
- Participate in the continuing improvement of services and assist Advanced Practitioners in the delivery and development of the Emergency Department.
Essential criteria
- RN, current NMC registration or Allied Health Professional with a Registered Professional Qualification
- Bsc Hons Degree
- Adult Clinical skills course (Level 7)
- ALS or APLS provider status
- Teaching / mentorship qualification
- Evidence of ongoing CPD
- Knowledge, clinical skills and experience in urgent care / emergency medicine
- Ability to assess, deliver, evaluate and benchmark quality care
- Excellent organisational skills
- Ability to cope with and diffuse difficult and stressful situations
- Clinical History Taking
- Work autonomously as well as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Emergency department / Acute Care experience
- Clinical care, assessment, diagnosis and care planning

This is an exciting time to join the existing AP team in the Emergency Department here at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Gateshead and we are looking for a Trainee Junior Nurse Practitioner (leading to Trainee AP role) who is able to complement our existing team.
