Role summary
This role is for an enthusiastic and highly motivated state registered Clinical Scientist to join the Genomics laboratory. The successful candidate will contribute to delivering a modern, high-quality diagnostic service and cutting-edge translational development. They will participate in a 6-day working rota, including Saturdays and some Bank Holidays. The position is full-time and permanent, offering a challenging yet rewarding opportunity within a dedicated, patient-focused team.
Key responsibilities
- Apply highly specialist scientific skill and expertise in diagnostic laboratory genetics, including troubleshooting assays.
- Ensure service effectiveness and currency through regular literature review.
- Implement laboratory procedures for sample receipt, processing, IQC, analysis, checking, interpretation, and reporting of results.
- Be responsible for the accuracy, timeliness, and appropriateness of routine and highly specialised genetic tests.
- Interpret and explain results, providing advice on further action for patients or family members, including risk calculation.
- Attend appropriate multidisciplinary team meetings to provide professional opinions on clinical cases.
Essential criteria
- BSc in an appropriate biological science
- HCPC Registered Clinical Scientist (or final year STP)
- Knowledge of principles of clinical laboratory genetics (in area of expertise)
- Able to critically analyse and interpret scientific data
- Able to concentrate at all times and work under pressure
- Excellent organisational and planning skills
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Meticulous
- Computer literate
Desirable criteria
- PhD in Biological Science
- Knowledge and experience of supervision and management

Job summary
We are seeking enthusiastic and highly motivated state registered Clinical Scientists to join our Genomics laboratory, working to deliver a modern high quality diagnostic service and cutting edge translational development.
We are happy to consider appointment of individuals who are not yet HCPC Registered but are currently on a recognised programme of training that will lead to registration in the near future. Appointment in this circumstance would be at AFC band 6 until registration.
