Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Nurse Specialist to join the in-patient Palliative Care team at the Royal Free site. The role involves providing specialist palliative care to patients with life-limiting illnesses in an acute hospital setting, managing a caseload, and offering advice, education, and support to patients, carers, and other healthcare professionals. The post holder will contribute to service development and participate in a 7-day week service.
Essential criteria

- Education and professional qualifications
- Registered Nurse
- Relevant first degree
- Relevant post-basic qualification
- Teaching and assessing qualification and/or extensive teaching experience
- Masters Degree in relevant subject or willing to study this level

- Physical Assessment Course
- Non-Medical Nurse Prescribing qualification
- Advanced Communication Skills Course
- Experience as a senior nurse
- Extensive experience of caring for patients with advanced progressive illness
- Experience of working in a learning environment e.g. mentorship/coaching role
- Experience of autonomous working e.g. managing a case load; nurse led clinics
- Evidence of improving the patient experience
- Skills and aptitudes
- Skills and knowledge in general palliative care
- Ability to articulate understanding of specialist palliative care
- Understanding of, and commitment to, team working

Job summary
There is an exciting opportunity available within the in- patient Palliative care team at the Royal Free site. We are a dynamic and supportive team who offer various learning opportunities whilst in post.
The CNS contributes to the provision of specialist palliative care in the acute hospital setting for patients facing life-limiting illnesses (within the remit of the multi- disciplinary team) accepting patient referrals to agreed criteria and managing their own caseload with the support of the Lead Nurse and Consultant Nurse. They will provide advice, education and support to patients, their carers and other health and social care professionals. They will contribute to the development and smooth running of the service. The post holder will work to agreed professional, departmental and Trust boundaries as required to provide patient centred seamless care and will take part in the 7 day / week service to hospital patients and North Camden community patients.
