Role summary
This role is for a Healthcare Assistant on a 12-month fixed-term contract, based at the Child Development Centre in Peterborough. The assistant will support Community Paediatricians by performing basic observations, providing play and support during clinics, and ensuring clinical areas meet infection control standards. The position involves being the first point of contact for parents/carers and children, requiring excellent communication skills to support those with complex medical needs. It also includes some administrative duties and maintaining a clean and safe environment.
Key responsibilities
- To carry out duties to ensure the smooth running of clinics in the child development centre.
- To deliver specific nursing interventions, social and play tasks.
- The post-holder will also be expected to undertake some clerical duties.
- To act under direction of qualified professionals.
- Work alongside other Child Development Centre (CDC) staff to provide both a quality and child friendly service.
- To deliver care to patients, carers and their families adhering to the philosophy of family centred care.
- To act as a chaperone for vulnerable children and young people as per Chaperone policy.
Essential criteria
- NVQ level 3/NNEB or equivalent
- Previous care experience
- Basic nursing skills
- Positive approach to all our families, children and young people.
- Willingness to be flexible in approach and attitude
- Able to demonstrate commitment to high quality care and service provision
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working with children and young people with complex needs/disabilities

Job summary
12 Month Fixed Term Contract
Based in Child Development Centre, City Care Centre, Peterborough on Monday to Friday basis. To support Community Paediatricians undertaking a range of health clinics, requiring basic observations of children and young people, play and support during clinic appointments.
As the first point of contact for parents/carers and children coming to the CDC for appointments, the Healthcare Assistant is responsible for providing a friendly welcome and carrying out clinical observations as required. The applicant will have excellent communication skills and be able to support children and young people with a range of complex medical needs.
Ensuring the clinical areas in line with Infection control policies- preparing clinical spaces, providing appropriate equipment and toys every day. Completing routine infection control checks of CDC is an essential responsibility of the Healthcare Assistant to maintain compliance with CQC standards.
