Role summary
This is a Physician Associate (PA) post within the Emergency Medicine Directorate, working across two Urgent Care Centres and the Emergency Department. The role involves working under the supervision of an ED Consultant, assisting with patient reviews, referrals, and discharges. PAs will also manage patient plans in the Urgent Intervention Area and undertake consultations, assessments, and clinical examinations as a dependent practitioner.
Key responsibilities
- Participate in the clinical care of patients, ensuring a high standard of care.
- Undertake patient consultations, assessments, clinical examinations, and order appropriate investigations under consultant guidance.
- Adapt specialist clinical knowledge to different settings and influence service delivery.
- Recognise patients with changing health status and undertake appropriate actions.
- Maintain timely and appropriate documentation and perform delegated diagnostic/therapeutic procedures within scope of practice.
- Work flexibly to meet service needs, including out of hours work, and collaborate with the multi-disciplinary team.
Essential criteria
- Postgraduate Diploma in Physician Associate Studies
- Registered with GMC
- Current and valid certification or re-certification of the National Certifying Examinations for Physicians Associates (Royal College of Physicians)
- . Passed and completed 1 year post graduate preceptorship
- Membership of the Faculty of Physician Associates (Royal College of Physicians)
- Experience working as a Physician Associate in an Acute Hospital or Community settin
Desirable criteria
- Life support course certification e.g. ILS, ALS or PALS
- Ability to practise evidence based medicine
- Demonstrates a critical and enquiring approach to knowledge acquisitio

Job summary
This is a post for Physician Associates (PA) who have successfully passed their preceptorship to join our Emergency Medicine Directorate comprising two Urgent Care Centres and our Emergency Department.
You will be expected to work in the Emergency Department. You will always be supervised by an ED Consultant and in this role you will work with the Emergency Medicine Lead Consultant as the jobs clinician carrying out reviews or assisting with tasks that will facilitate the onward referral or discharge of patients within the Emergency Department. There will also be the opportunity to carry out management plans under the guidance of the Emergency Medicine Consultant working in the Urgent Intervention Area of the Department.
Main duties of the job
As a dependant practitioner, undertake patient consultations, assessments, clinical examinations, order appropriate investigations and interpret investigation findings under the guidance of an Emergency Medicine Consultant appropriate actions. This role includes rotation across all areas of the Emergency Department and working with out multi disciplinary teams.
