Role summary
This role is for an Ophthalmic Technician to join the Bank Team at Royal Hampshire County Hospital, Winchester. You will support the Virtual Glaucoma Service by performing diagnostic tests and imaging procedures, ensuring accurate data collection for virtual patient reviews. This flexible bank position offers shifts based on service needs and your availability, contributing to improved patient access and reduced waiting times.
Key responsibilities
- Perform ophthalmic diagnostic investigations including visual acuity testing, visual field assessment, OCT imaging and intraocular pressure measurement.
- Prepare patients for investigations and ensure they understand the procedures being undertaken.
- Obtain high-quality diagnostic images and test results to support virtual and face-to-face clinical decision making.
- Record clinical information accurately within electronic patient records.
- Ensure all ophthalmic equipment is maintained, cleaned and functioning correctly.
- Escalate concerns regarding patient safety, wellbeing or unexpected findings to registered practitioners.
Essential criteria
- GCSE in English and Maths (or equivalent skill level)
- Evidence of personal development
- Previous experience within a healthcare setting
- Excellent computer skills including Word processing and use of Excel.
- Good communication skills - able to communicate verbally and in writing to staff, patients and relatives.
- Ability to prioritise workload and manage own time effectively
- Able to build effective working relationships with staff and colleagues
- Able to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
