Role summary
This 18-month fixed-term role is for a Dementia Specialist Nurse or Occupational Therapist to join the Dementia and Delirium Team at Newham University Hospital. The successful candidate will support the Trust's Dementia Strategy, aiming to improve care for patients with dementia or delirium and their carers. The role involves clinical assessments, working with multidisciplinary teams, and contributing to education and audit programs. Flexible working is considered for this part-time position.
Essential criteria
- oRegistered Nurse (RMN or RGN) or Occupational Therapist (OT)

- oTeaching/Assessment programme
- oRelevant post-registration programme
- oPost qualification clinical experience in older people's care/ dementia & delirium care
- oExperience in using a range of standardised assessment tools
- oUnderstanding of quality improvement techniques
- oExperience working with families and carers of people with dementia and delirium
- oExperience of working within an ethnically diverse community
- oAble to analyse and act on research and changing environment
- oExperience carrying out risk assessment and implementing actions
- oExperience in coaching and mentoring staff
- oExperience in teaching in both formal and informal settings
- oExperience in supervising and appraising staff, recruitment and workforce planning
- oExperience working in the acute physical care setting
- oDecision making skills
- oAbility to embrace the values and ethos of working within the team
- oAbility to manage their own time and work autonomously.

Job summary
An opportunity has arisen for the right person to join the Dementia and Delirium Team for 4 days a week based at Newham University Hospital, Barts Health NHS Trust.
We are seeking to recruit a Dementia Specialist Nurse / Occupational Therapist for 18 months, to support the delivery of the Trust Dementia Strategy, to help improve the care and experience of those living with dementia or delirium and their carers. The role will also support the National Dementia strategy by identifying patients living with dementia and other causes of cognitive impairment, to prompt appropriate referral and follow up to prevent re-admission.
We are looking for a nurse / occupational therapist with creative flair who is experienced in working with people living with dementia. You will be enthusiastic, innovative and forward thinking with a passion for improving the lives of people living with dementia and/or delirium.
We are working towards improving services in line with the national and local objectives in dementia and delirium care, and are looking for someone who is willing to go the extra mile to ensure our patients get excellent, person centred care.
