Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Band 5 Staff Nurse to join the Theatre Admissions Unit at Liverpool University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The unit handles admissions, peri-operative care, and post-operative recovery and discharge for day case patients across various surgical specialities. The role requires a strong surgical background, excellent communication skills, and a positive, professional manner to ensure high standards of patient care.
Key responsibilities
- Responsible and accountable for the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of nursing care.
- Work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team and undertake delegated tasks from the ward sister/charge nurse.
- Following successful completion of foundation gateway will be required to take charge of ward/department for a span of duty.
- Participate in maintaining a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for all patients and carers and maintain agreed standards of nursing care.
- Determine nursing priorities and plan patient care.
- Assist in the safe checking and administration of drugs.
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse, current NMC registration
- BSc in Nursing (Diploma in Nursing as a minimum)
- Recent clinical nursing experience as a student or as a registered nurse
- Knowledge of current nursing issues and clinical governance
- Demonstrates awareness of own limitations
- Ability to organise workload and delegate tasks appropriately
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Ability to support less experienced staff
- Ability to problem solve

A very exciting opportunity to join a busy, fast paced environment on the Theatre Admissions Unit in the Liverpool University Hospital Foundation Trust at the Royal Site.
The Theatre Admissions Unit takes the majority of patients being admitted for surgery and procedures. We admit them peri-operatively and post-operatively recover and discharge them if they are day case patients.
We cover a range of specialities, including but not limited too; Urology, Colorectal, Breast, Ophthalmology, Interventional Radiology, and General Surgery.
For this role you will preferably have a strong surgical background, demonstrate excellent communication skills, you must display a positive and professional manner, be open to change and have the drive and commitment to aim to get it right for every patient every time.
