Role summary
This is a 12-month fixed-term contract for a Biomedical Scientist in the Chemical Pathology section of the Blood Sciences department. The role involves performing a variety of tasks including equipment maintenance, quality controls, and specialised procedures within a high-throughput laboratory. The successful candidate will join a team delivering high-quality test results for patients across Swindon and the surrounding area, engaging with the laboratory's quality management system.
Key responsibilities
- Act as a State Registered Biomedical Scientist (BMS) providing scientific and diagnostic services.
- Perform equipment maintenance, quality controls, and troubleshooting procedures.
- Engage with the laboratory's quality management system (QMS).
- Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and document processes according to departmental policies.
- Perform analysis of clinical biochemistry tests using automated equipment.
Essential criteria
- IBMS accredited Biomedical Sciences degree (or equivalent approved by the IBMS)
- HCPC registration as a biomedical scientist
- Experience working and communicating as part of a diverse team
- Experience working in a high-through put environment
Desirable criteria
- Health and Safety training
- Quality management training
- Demonstratable experience working within an NHS laboratory environment

Job summary
12-Month Fixed Term Contract (Maternity cover) This role is an opportunity for an enthusiastic, well-motivated Biomedical Scientist with Health and Care Professionals Council registration to join the Great Western Hospitals Chemical Pathology section within Blood Sciences department as a Biomedical Scientist.
The post holder will join a team of dedicated professionals working to deliver high quality test results and excellent care to patients across Swindon and the surrounding area. The Great Western Hospitals Blood Science department handles over 6 million test requests per year and offers a large repertoire of tests for our patients.
At the time of advertising, this role does not meet the minimum requirements set by UK Visas and Immigration to sponsor candidates to work in the UK, unless you are currently being paid top of the band 5 salary scale in line with your experience.
For this reason, we are unable to sponsor anyone for a skilled worker visa for this role. We are happy to accept applications from candidates who can prove their right to work in the UK or via alternative visa routes. Such applications will be considered alongside all other applications.
